Chapter Twelve
Please reread (on page 179) the paragraph that begins with "Oh. Vetch. Bloody red murder raged in my bosom." What was going on there? What specifically caused the type of reaction Calpurnia had? What was she thinking and feeling? Why?
Her reaction was that she was angry because she was really proud of her discovery and then they sounded like they weren't very exited and could care more which got Calpurnia angry.
Before that Sam didn't know what a vetch was then Calpurnia was thinking about jumping across the table at him but she just sat there. I think that she was feeling angry because she was getting ready to jump at him.
I think it was was because she thought that the family would be more excited than they were and they didn't really care at all and that just made her feel really bad because she wanted to be recodnized.
I think all of you got much of the essence of this, but take another look at the two consecutive sentences in that paragraph that begin with "Never." What was Calpurnia thinking at that point?
I think that Calpurnia was thinking that no conversation had sounded like that, and that she had never seen her family as such half-wits, such hayseeds, such dolts.
I agree with Colden and Shaina. I think that Calpurnia was saying that her family had never had a conversation like that and it was weird because it was different than any other converstaion thay have had.
