Chapter Eight

"Calpurnia, I would never 'kid.'  And for once, your mother and I are in agreement on this important point: The use of slang is an indicator of a weak intellect and an impoverished vocabulary." (p. 98)

What did Granddaddy mean by this?

  1. Grandfather was trying to say that he would never joke about anything and that when you use a word, but there is another better word to use you are not very intelligent.

  2. He meant that he didn't want her to use the slang that she used and that her mother and him were actually in an agreement for once

  3. I think that he meant that when you or in this case Calpurnia uses slang instead of the actual word or phrase, it is less or not at all intelligent. And Calpurnia's mother agrees with that also.

  4. I think that he meant that grandfather and mother are in an agreement that using slang terms shows a low level of vocabulary and low intelligence and that it should not be used.
