Chapter Eight

Why do you think Granddaddy felt that it was a bad idea to give names to experimental subjects?  What do you think he meant when he said, "It tends to spoil the truly objective observation"? (p. 110)

  1. I think that Granddaddy felt that it was a bad idea to give names to experimental subjects because then you get attached to them and then you won't experiment on them for research.

  2. I think that Granddaddy was saying that you would be paying more attention to the pet and its name than the science when you are doing the experiment.

  3. I think that when he said that she should rather not give it a name, he said that because, if she gave it a name she would probably pay more attention to it as a pet much more than an science specimen. And she would probably get distracted with that matter.

  4. I think that grandfather thought that giving the turtle a name was a bad idea because Calpurnia would limit the tests because she would think of it as a pet and would think that it might get hurt, mentally.

  5. I very much so agree with Colden because if you get to attached to something you will not be willing to do certain things in the name of science.
