Chapter Seven

"There had been times in the past when I'd been in some kind of mild trouble with him and, uncomfortable as those times had been, they had always passed.  I had basked safe in the knowledge that I was forever his favorite; I took his love on faith and wrapped it around me like a blanket.  But this was different.  I had fundamentally injured him while trying to protect us, to protect him.  No.  If I were being honest, to protect myself.  And I felt the first icy grip of grief around my heart." (p.82)

In the context of the story so far, please explain in as much detail as possible, what Calpurnia meant by these words -- what she was thinking, what she was feeling.

  1. Calpurnia was feeling that the feelings that he gave her were going to stay close to her forever until she died.

  2. I think that Calpurnia was feeling that she never tried or wanted to hurt Harry. She thought that is was best for her, the family and most important, him. She shared that they have gotten in some little fights but those have passed like a small shower of rain. She said that this fight was different for them and that it was the first icy grip of grief around her heart. That is what I think that Calpurnia was feeling and/or thinking when she said that

  3. I think that Calpurnia was thinking that she knew that Henry has always loved her and that she, as said, thought of his love as a blanket that was rapped around her. But, after she spilled his secret, she thought that she was protecting him and the family, but she was really hurting him. Also, after she told the secret, grief started to close in on her especially thanks to the fact that he will not talk to her since the incident and seems disappointing with her.

  4. I think Calpurnia thought of Harry as a role model or peer, and she didn't want see him leave, so she knew that if she told the rest of the family, their parents wouldn't approve of Harry having a girfriend. Afterwards, Calpurnia realized she didn't care for Harrys feelings and just statred thinking about herself.

  7. Calpurnia was thinking that she was the one closest to Harry's heart and now she had started ,in her own words, a mini war because she felt that she wasn't the closest one to Harry's heart anymore.
