Chapter Seven

What evidence can you find in the text about how some (any) members of Calpurnia's family felt about Minerva Goodacre?  Why do you suppose she returned to Austin?  Why were Harry's letters to her returned unopened?

  1. I think that she returned to Austin because she felt like she wasn't being treated like she should have been treated. Harry's letters to her returned unopened because she wasn't there.

  2. I thought that it was very ear that from the moment that Calpurnia met Minerva, she didn't like her. I think that Minerva went back to Austin because of the way the Calpurnia and the rest of the family acted when she was there and then she knew that she didn't really like Harry or his family and went back to Austin. I think that Harrys letters never were opened was because she was trying to send a message to Harry that she just couldn't be with him anymore.

  3. I think that grandfather thought that Minerva was a fine woman especially with the fact that she was interested in the bug specimens. I think that she returned to Austin because she felt that Henry's family might seem in contrast to each other. I think Henry's letters were unopened because Minerva didn't think that they were right for each other and she didn't have the heart to read his notes and reply to them.

And Colden, I would like to ask you to elaborate on why you think that she didn't feel like she was treated how she should have been treated. Please get back. Thanks.

  4. I think that she returned to Austin because she felt that (like Colden said) she wasn't getting treated the way that she would of liked to be treated and kind or just, gave up.And I think that Harry's letters to her were returned unopened because she could have got them before she left for Austin and not wanted to say anything because if she wasn't there when she got the letter there would be no way that she could of sent it back.

  6. I think that something between Minerva Goodacre and Grandaddy made her angered or sad in some way. I think that the letters came back unopened because she has either fled to Austin, so she doesn't have to see Harry again, or she has fallen ill and is at a hospital in Austin.

  7. To, Tyler.
I think that she wasn't being treated like she should have been because on pg.85 it says "The Locketts, the Longorias, Miss Brown. Reverend and Mrs. Goodacre. And a MissMinerva Goodacre." Said mother, as she examined her butter knife. I think that she felt thretened by Calpurnia's mother examining the butter knife.
    There you go, Tyler.

  8. I agree partially with Angus. I think that Minerva just leaving and going to a hospital in Austin is definitely not the reason. I think it was because the whole family was acting like they had never seen a girl before and they were very interested in her.

  9. I disagree with Sebastian because she well have could gone to Austin and the hospital.

  10. Colden this happened before the party so this does not make sense.
