Chapter Seventeen

On page 222, Callie declares, "My last thought, before I fell into a restless sleep, was of the coyote.  If only I could figure out how to gnaw my own leg off."

What did she mean?  Why did she say that?

  1. She was using the common story of an animal, such as a coyote, getting caught in a trap and having to chew it's leg off to get out, losing a small part of itself. She was suggesting that she was in the coyote's situation because she was trapped and would have to make drastic actions to get free. She believes that she is in this situation because she is trapped in the situation that her mother wants her to be like most girls, but Callie just wants to get free and be herself.

  2. I think that she said it because earlier in the story sh mentioned a coyote who was trapped with it's foot n the cage and she related her self to that. She believes that she is the coyote in that story. So when she said that I think that she meant that sh wants to run away from her parents and everyone else saying that she has to become something that she does not want to be, and be free.

  4. First of all Shaina I have no idea what you are talking about also Callie meant that she was being trapped in her own destiny also I think that she said this because of what her parents were talking about.

  5. I agree with Tyler because she was sad about how her mother and father had been talking about that she felt like she had just lost a part of her.

  6. I agree with Sebastian because of the way that her parents talked to her.
