I think that viola is upset because she didn't want anyone (escpecially her mother) to see her. I think Viola didn't want anyone to see her doing this is so that their family doesn't get a bad reputation.I also think that since a debutant is a girl or lady that is of an aristocractic form that Viola says that she can't come out and work. Also I think that Viola called her selfish because she said she would not have beaux even for her mother even if she doesn't know what beaux is.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what that means, Angus. Do you?
DeleteI think that Viola became so upset that Calpurnia started chopping cotton because Calpurnia was trying to be a debutante and then she chopped cotton. I think that Viola called herself selfish because she thought that it was her fault.
ReplyDeleteI think that Viola was so upset because Callie was rich and cutting cotton is a job for servants and the poor and Calurnia might be mistaken for a servant. Also, her mother would shun her greatly. I think that Viola called Callie selfish because she thinks that she always wants what she doesn't have. For example, when she is rich like she is, she wants to cut cotton and act poor.
ReplyDeleteI think that Viola was so upset that Calpurnia was chopping cotton because Calpurnia is a rich white girl and chopping cotton is a job for slaves. She got mad because if someone saw her doing that that would not be good.
