Chapter Twenty-one
Why does Harry think Callie's question about becoming a scientist is "so far-fetched"?
He said in the book that he had never heard of a girl scientist. And I think that is part of the reason but I think that the other part is that he thinks that she will get married and back then if you are married you can't have a carrer. You are a house wife.
I think that it is because Harry thinks that being a scientist would be a waste of her time and that Calpurnia is better than that and can get a good job and get paid good money.
I think that it is because she is a pretty, educated girl that he thinks can do better things with her life.
